SIMPLE PAST TENSE

The Simple Past Tense is a verb tense form that indicates an action is already complet. it denotes actions or states of being in the past.

To form the simple past tense, you have to use the past tense form of the verb. In the case of many verbs, you have to just add an -ed  to the root form of the verb. For example, the past tense of the verb walk is walked.

However, there are irregular verbss for which the past tense form does not follow the rule mentioned above. These verbs have a different spelling in the past tense form. for example, the past tense form of the verb eat is ate.. The past tense form of the verb bring is  brought.

Some verbs do not change at all in the past tense form. Example are read, beat and hit.

Below is given list of commonly used verbs and their past tense form

Buy - Bought

Sleep - Slept

Write - Wrote

Put - Put

Keep - Kept

Uses of the simple past tense

The simple past tense is used to indicate completed actions. The action is complete at a time before now, which can be in the distant past or the recent past..

Example:

I had breakfast at around 07.30 in the morning

The lion escaped from its enclosure yesterday

Simple Past Tense adalah bentuk kata kerja yang menunjukkan suatu kegiatan, pekerjaan atau perbuatan yang sudah selesai dilakukan. Hal itu menunjukkan tindakan atau keadaan di masa lalu.

Untuk membentuk Simple Past Tense, Anda harus menggunakan bentuk kata kerja Past Tense. Untuk beberapa kata kerja, Anda hanya perlu menambahkan an -ed ke bentuk akar kata kerja. Misalnya, bentuk lampau dari kata kerja Walk adalah Walked.

Akan tetapi, ada kata kerja tak beraturan yang bentuk lampaunya tidak mengikuti aturan yang disebutkan di atas. Kata kerja ini memiliki ejaan yang berbeda pada bentuk lampau. sebagai contoh, bentuk lampau dari kata kerja Eat adalah Ate. Bentuk bentuk lampau dari kata kerja Bring adalah Brought.

Beberapa kata kerja tidak berubah sama sekali dalam bentuk lampau. Contoh dibaca, Hit dan Hit.

Penggunaan Simple Past Tense

Simple Past Tense digunakan untuk menunjukkan tindakan, pekerjaan atau perbuatan yang sudah selesai.
